How I tone my hair.

Some people often ask me how I keep my hair blonde, and when I tell them, I usually get a few raised eyebrows.
The way I tone my hair is by making a mask with purple hair dye!

Ok, Let's back it up a bit and start from the beginning. If most of you know me, or seen any pictures of me, you'll know that I change my hair a lot. In order for me to keep my hair in the best condition possible, my hairdresser doesn't process it too much. When this happens, it usually isn't the whitest blonde, but I'd rather it be the healthiest it can be so I do sacrifice the colour for quality.

So bearing that in mind, I embrace the lemon toned hair because I know that I can safely make it a cleaner blonde.

Let me explain the science!

As the image above shows, purple and yellow are opposite to each other on the colour wheel. So if you have a lemon colour tone in your hair you'd tend to use a purple shampoo to tone it. This neutralises the colour by counterbalancing the colour, similar to using a green concealer to cancel red tones on your face :)

There are various of purple toning shampoo's out there on the market but I feel sometimes they are not as effective as I'd like them to be, so I make my own mask.

(Note: I am not a hair professional, but this works for me. I'd advise you to contact your hairdresser before you do this if you have any concerns with your colour)

The products I use are Manic Panic's Ultraviolet, Virgin Snow ( I prefer the amplified version) and TreSemmé mask for hair prone to breakage and damage.

You could sub out these product for cheaper alternatives but I like these products.

I mix 3 parts conditioner two 1-2 parts of each dye.

I place this all over my hair like this!

It looks super scary but I promise it works.

I left it in longer than I usually do because I have a broken wrist and it took me longer to put it in my hair, but I usually leave it on for 20-30 mins.

Et voila!

I know it looks a bit purple, but that's only because I left it longer than usual but you can see it's a crisper blonde :)

Love ya loads,
